Female Empowerment

I am blessed to be surrounded by so many inspiring women and artists.
Recently, I have chosen to focus on the feminine in my current body of work, and empowering them through visual expressions of women stepping into their strength in various ways.
A few years ago I began an abstract/non-objective piece with my daughters help. We worked together painting a canvas with vibrant colours which I feel expressed pure joy. I lived with the piece for a few years like this, but something told me it was unfinished. I brought it back into studio and began painting a serene figure with a beautifully patterned headdress, which has now evolved into the piece it is today, “She wears it with Pride”. It is a visual representation of how a symbol of oppression, at one point in history, has come full circle back to its roots, and is now an expression of solidarity and pride in ones culture.

I shared this piece through social media while I worked on her, and was contacted by a woman inquiring about purchasing her. I advised Sarah, I needed to complete her and would be in touch when she was finished, which was some months later.
She was purchased and is now living happily in her new home in Sydney. What I didn’t know at the time was, Sarah, the woman who purchased this piece, began a charity called Boots for Africa www.bootsforafrica.com.au, that sends second hand gear to Africa to help those in impoverished areas. She sent me the most beautiful email upon receiving the painting and it absolutely warms my heart to know that my painting has touched the heart of a kind, warm woman who is making a positive change in this world.

<3 Please have a look at her charity and pass along your shoes/boots/support to those in need. <3

As always with love,

Di
